Happy New Year 2013

Happy New Year!
Here's to a New and Improved New Year! 2012 was a bit rough; health issues, underemployment, an election, global warming... I could go on. But, it also had it's good points, here are some images from my life in 2012:

April 2012: My husband Charles and I went to Tucson, Arizona to visit my mother, Rose, and sister, Gina. It was hot! We took the shuttle up Sabino Canyon, and spent the day at a swimming hole.

We also spent a day at the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun. This was the home of artist, Ted DeGrazia, and is now a museum. The primitive, spiritual beauty of his art perfectly evokes the mystical depth of Tucson.

DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun   The DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun is the creation of one of the Southwest’s most famous artists, Ted (Ettore) DeGrazia (1909-1982). Visit the main gallery, the adobe mission and the artist’s home.

August 2012: Back home, environmental issues came to the forefront as it became known that Pacific Gas and Electric Company had plans to blast our local waters with sonic booms as part of planned seismic testing. This would be done as an effort to keep open Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, and would have devastating effects on local marine life, including otters, dolphins and whales.

Marine life swarms Avila, August 2012
In August, record numbers of whales, dolphins and harbor seals swam into the port of Avila and local residents joined them in protest to stop this atrocity. In the end, we prevailed, the testing was put on hold indefinitely.

Charlie in Yosemite
October 2012: I won a sweepstakes prize of hotel stay in Yosemite. We hadn't been there in a few years, and it was spectacular!

Charlie and Cassie at Kirk Creek
November 2012: Charlie's Birthday. We went camping at Kirk Creek in Big Sur. We drove up and slept in the van. It was our first time camping in the van, it rained, and we were snug and cozy.

All in all, not a bad year!
